St Heliers win Women’s Champ of Champ Triples
Congratulations to Catherine Bien, Sue Curran & Julie Agate on winning the Champ of Champ Triples. They went into the final knowing that if they won it would givelJulie Agate her fifth centre title. Their final game against Glendowie was reported in the Auckland Flash as follows:-
“They started strongly but Glendowie made inroads into their lead and by the sixth end the score was 5-5. St Heliers again took the advantage and raced away to 9-5 over the next three ends and then managed to pick up a four on the eleventh end to be a more comfortable 13-6 ahead.
The tension was clearly mounting particularly on Agate herself but cool, calm and collected number two for St Heliers, Sue Curran, continued to just draw shots and roll the ends over.
By the fifteenth end St Heliers were looking comfortable 17-7 but when Glendowie claimed two on the next end to bring the score to 17-9 it could have gone either way with three ends to go.
With St Heliers taking the seventeenth end by one shot the game was at the point of no return at 18-9 and Agate had the coveted gold star.
